Ctenosaura quinquecarinata
A total of 20 Ctenosaura quinquecarinata specimens was observed and studied during two four week stays in the environs of Tehuantepec, Mexico. Obviously, the populations in Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica differ in maximum size, colouration, and pholidosis. Near the Isthmus of Tehuantepec the species occurs in subtropical dry forest with stomy or gravelly bottom (about 750 m NN). Hollow trunks, branches, pales, and rock holes are used for shelter. The iguanas mainly feed on leafes, but were observed catching insects, too.
