Ctenosaura palearis
The habits of the isolated populations of Ctenosaura palearis in Honduras (Río Aguan basin) and Guatemala (Río Motagua basin) are very similar, xerophytic deciduous forests with lots of columnar cacti. The iguanas live on trees, and seek shelter in hollow branches and stems. Several gravid females were caught at the beginning of May 1994. The iguanas from Honduras (n=17) and Guatemala (n=15) did not differ in morphometric characters and pholidosis clearly. However, the specimens from Honduras have an intensive black breast colouration, a character lacking in animals from Guatemala. Further investigations are necessary to determine whether the widely separated population of C. palearis are subspecies or even species.
