Cyclura nubila nubila
This paper offers a general information about some key biological aspects of Cuban iguana (Cyclura nubila nubila) to its conservation. This survey was carried out at Cayo del Rosario, Archipiélago de los Canarreos, during october 1991 and January, March, May, June and October 1992. Iguanas abundance was estimated from transects (20 x 80 m) and 50 refuges were measured; 39 specimens were collected (17 males and 22 females) to analyse morphometric measures and stomach content. Density (iguanas / there is) fluctuated between 6,5 and 12,8, with an average of 9,9 (DS = 9). More than 40% of refuges were detected in sand soil, dense scrub and oriented to NW. Males presented an average snout – vent length and average weight higher than females. Iguanas prefer leaves as food and the species Erithalis fruticosa and Lantana involucrata were the most represented on its diet during the studied period in this locality.
